Haringey Left Unity: The next meeting of Haringey Left Unity will be on Wednesday 16th July, at 7.30 p.m. at the Wood Green Social Club, Stuart Crescent, N22 5NJ

At short notice we are privileged to have the opportunity to have Dian Trisnanti come and speak to the branch about the struggle of women textile and garment factory workers in Indonesia. Dian is in London for only a short time and we are fortunate to be able to have her speak to us.

Dian Trisnanti is a leader of the Inter-Factory Workers Federation (FBLP) in Indonesia and a founder of the women workers community radio. Find out more about it here.

Dian used to be a journalist and now is a full time worker for the FBLP and leads their work on the radio.

The union actively advocates for women’s rights in the factory and is also leading a campaign against sexual harassment in the industrial zone (Nusantara Bonded Zone-KBN Cakung in North Jakarta). This is an article Dian wrote about campaigning against sexual violence in Indonesia.

The Federation organises in the textile and garment sectors- sectors in which a majority of women work. The union has led two strikes in the zone, in October 2011 and then in October 2013.
