Resolution for discussion: Ceasefire in Ukraine
London Region CND notes that:
– the civil war in Ukraine is continuing, and is causing suffering to the people of Ukraine;
– the civil war in Ukraine has been accompanied by warlike rhetoric within NATO countries and within Russia;
– the civil war in Ukraine has been accompanied by military deployments by NATO countries and by Russia;
– nuclear weapons are possessed by NATO countries and Russia, and these nuclear weapons continue to be enhanced on both sides.
London Region CND:
– wishes an immediate and permanent ceasefire within Ukraine, and therefore calls upon the governments of the USA and Russia to work together to bring this about;
– deplores the prospect of a new “cold war”, and will publicise the dangers of escalation to a major war between nuclear powers that this entails;
– opposes the UK’s role in escalating tensions, and UK participation in military manoeuvres on the borders of Russia.
