How The Establishment Get Away With It

Owen Jones will talk on the issues and arguments from his latest book The Establishment: How They Get Away With It (Sep 2014, Penguin) which looks at the reasons for political and economic injustice including specifically the role of the Establishment and whether the public sector is demonised.

Owen Jones, writer, columnist & broadcaster  was the 2012 Stonewall Journalist of the Year and the 2013 Political Book Awards Young Writer of the Year. Born in Sheffield, Owen grew up in Stockport and after graduating worked as a trade union and parliamentary researcher.  His first book Chavs: The Demonisaton of the Working Class published in 2011 wasin the New York Times top 10 non fiction books for 2011 and was long listed for the Guardian First Book Award.  The Establishment: How They Get Away With It (Sep 2014, Penguin) is his second book.

A bold and informed political commentator, Owen appears regularly on television and radio including Channel 4 News, Question Time BBC1, Any Questoins Radio 4, Daybreak ITV and Sunday Morning Live BBC1. Formerly a columnist for The Independent, he has been a weekly columnist at The Guardian since March 2014.
